GRASS - LAND SUN - MOTH HUMAN :
AN ECOLOGICAL PERFORMANCE '
An interest in the open plain grasslands on the outskirts of St Albans (VIC) began when I was a child growing up nearby.
As I learnt more about the grasslands' ecological, aesthetic and cultural value, I wanted to draw attention to this often overlooked and undervalued environment through: experiential performance; dance (specifically the Japanese dance theatre form of Butoh); and food.
In 2012 I commenced a Postgraduate Diploma in Arts Research at Monash University --- the equivalent of an Honours year in performing arts. My research and performance project included the development of a 3-stage interdisciplinary community level performance titled grass sun - moth human which was presented in 2013.
The following year (2014), the show was developed with the assistance of Brimbank Council's Seeding Arts Grant for a successful run at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
